In the event finals at the Turnier der Meister World Cup in Cottbus BC’s Brittany Rogers (Flicka) won gold on vault and bronze on beam!
She score 13.525 on the beam earlier today en route to the bronze. Canada’s Dominique Pegg finished 8th. Peg, also won a bronze today on floor exercise!
The gold medal on vault was Roger’s best ever result at a World Cup event, eclipsing the silver medal she won last November in Croatia, also in the vault event.
“It was definitely a thrill to win after so much hard work, but it was also a little bittersweet, because it’s probably my last World Cup.”
Rogers, who is hoping to cap her stellar career at the Olympics before going off to a gymnastics scholarship in the U.S., scored 13.962 for her two vaults, including a well executed double twisting Yurchenko that earned the single highest score of the competition.
“The Yurchenko has really improved since I did it for the first time in competition at the world championships in 2009,” said Rogers.
“I’m definitely more confident with it now and it’s really satisfying to see the hard work pay off with a gold medal.”
Nastassia Marachkouskaya of Belarus won the silver with 13.875 points and Claudia Menendez Gonzalez of Spain took the bronze (13.737).
Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont., finished 5th (13.537).
